I have enjoyed painting since attending school in Chesterfield, and I still remember the advice of my art teacher.
Many years later, whilst I was Advertising Manager on a local Nottinghamshire weekly newspaper, I realised there was a wealth of information and photos in the old newspapers, and so I decided, with encouragement from my late wife Barbara, to paint old town scenes entitled “The Way We Were”, and when I had my first exhibition in the local library, it all took off!
Now I paint from old photos, postcards – the older the better. I then go and take photographs of the buildings which still remain, in order to get more detail. I try to be as accurate as possible (with the help of a magnifying glass), right down to the last brick!
Hiding within each picture you will find my faithful dog Jude.
